Elite Athlete and Performer Scheme applications are reviewed monthly between January and October to ensure that any student athlete, whose circumstances change throughout the year does not miss out.

Whilst the majority of elite athletes will be on scholarships within the Australian Institute of Sport or the network of state institutes and academies of sport, there are many athletes that may fall outside of this cohort. The following strategies are therefore suggested for identifying elite athletes studying at universities within Australia.

For athletes to access the support identified within the guiding principles outlined above, they must be identified and recognised by one of the following organisations as an elite athlete:

  • Australian Institute of Sport
  • State Institutes or Academies of Sport (e.g. New South Wales Institute of Sport, NSWIS)
  • Australian Cricketers’ Association
  • AFL Players' Association
  • Union Players' Association
  • League Professionals’ Association
  • Australian Professional Footballers’ Association
  • National senior squad members from Athlete Career Education (ACE) supported sports

If an athlete falls outside of these organisations, they may submit an application for consideration to the University. The National CACE manager will act as a representative from the Australian Sports Commission to investigate, verify and make a recommendation to the University. Please note that this verification process can take up to four weeks.

NSWIS Athletes:

Organise a meeting with an Athlete Career, Education & Professional Development (ACE/PD) Consultant. The ACE/PD Unit assists athletes to achieve their sporting objectives.
